The automobile industry as a whole is now faced with great issues suchas more intense market competition, potential excess capacity, low profit outof autonomous brands of vehicles, slowdown in innovation and breakthrough, etc.The automobile industry in China has entered the age of “micro growth”, whichis an indisputable fact.
Asthe only municipality in West China directly under State Council and thelargest automobile industrial base in China, Chongqing has played a veryimportant role in the development and structure of the automobile industry inChina with its good industrial foundation and the hinterland with vast markets.However, under a new situation, namely, overturn by new technical revolution onthe one hand, and more intense market competition on the other hand, how willChongqing, the largest national automobile industrial base cope with newopportunities and challenges?
At the global automobile forum held in June this year, WuCunrong, the executive vice mayor of Chongqing Municipality stated in hisspeech: Theautomobile industry in Chongqing has to be changed from general situation tothe great power. For the next step, we will caterfor the great trend of scientific and technical revolution and industrialchanges, closely follow the trend of the automobile industrial development inthe world to promote the automobile industry of Chongqing to be transformedtowards the intelligent and green direction making endeavor to build it into animportant new energy automobile industrial base and the internationallyadvanced automobile industrial cluster of intelligent connected vehicles. Chongqinghas confidence to continue to dominate a position in the future industry.
In August, Tang Liangzhi, mayor of Chongqing Municipality,emphasized while making asurvey of the automobile industry in Chongqing: The automobile industry is thepillar industry of Chongqing making significant contributions towards thedevelopment of economic society. Currently, the developmentopportunity and challenge coexists in Automobile Industry of Chongqing. Allrelated enterprises must be filled with confidence, control trends, and joinefforts to boost the steady growth of the automobile industry andtransformation and upgrading development, so that the automobile industry ofChongqing will become stronger and better in a firm manner.
Insummary: Chongqingis now making every effort to push forward the automobile manufacturingindustry towards the intelligence and greenness direction for transformation tobuild new energy and connected car automobile industrial cluster. For industrial transformation and upgrading, there havebeen uninterrupted actions in Chongqing recently. In April, SK Motor signed a strategiccooperative framework agreement with Baidu involving five fields such as automatic drive, telematics, cloud service, marketing and Apollo Plan. In July, Chang An Motor signed a strategicagreement with Huawei to set up the joint innovation center to promote thedevelopment of intelligent automobiles；BYD signed a cooperativeagreement with Chang An to establish a joint venture atLiangjiang New District and to focus on the production of power battery.
In August, Chang An Motor signed cooperation agreementwith Liangjiang New Districtand Baidu respectively. The estimated investment will beRMB10.2 billion for the building of “New Energy Industrial Park” in LiangjiangNew District；SK Motorhas signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Alibaba to jointly promotethe digital, intelligent and online application cooperation andindustrialization；BYD hassigned an investment cooperation agreement with Bishan District Government toplan for the investment at RMB10 billion in the construction of power battery project with the annualproductivity as 20GWh；Car and Home New Energy automobiles base in Liangjiang NewDistrict of Chongqing, with the investment of RMB11billion to build the “intelligent vehicle manufacturing base”. In October, ChangAn Motor joined efforts with Tencent. Beijing Wutong Vehicle Connecting Co.,Ltd they jointly build comes into being. Chongqing runs in a high speed alongthe road to the automobile industrial transformation and upgrading.
Technical innovation has become a key path to thetransformation upgrading in the automobile industry. It is said that under thisbackground, in order to build a world level automobile technical exchange andcooperation platform, to promote the upgrading of the automobile industry inChongqing and even all over China, Chongqing Economic and InformatizationCommission and Chongqing Business Commission will join efforts with ChinaAssociation of Automobile Manufacturers to hold the Ninth China AutomotiveTechnology Exhibition at Chongqing International Exposition Center from March27-29, 2019. The exhibition will be specifically sponsored by ChongqingZhonghuan Shengshi Business Exhibition Co., Ltd.
The exhibition was founded in 2011 focusing on advancedtechnology of front part assembly, and actively pushing forward thefinalization of application of innovative technologies to the automobile field.It has a greater industrial impact both at home and abroad. The estimatedexhibition area of the Ninth Exhibition is 46000㎡, and by that time, more than 700 famous enterprises inthe world will gather in Chongqing to demonstrate full industrial chaininnovative technological products in a systematic and one-stop manner fromdesign, development, materials, equipment, parts and components to the entiremotors, especially in advanced technologies in light weight, intelligentmanufacture, new energy and intelligent telematics.
